Invitation design is a huge part of the wedding planning process. While I’m not going to go into all of the nitty gritty details and parts of an invitation, I am going to take a few minutes and educate you on one element. An element that can take your super basic and budget friendly looking invitation to fairly elevated but still reasonable on the wallet – spot calligraphy. What in the world is that, you ask? Spot calligraphy is where a calligrapher writes just a few select words for you, uploads them into a file and provides them to your stationer to drop into place on your invitation. This gives you a highly custom look without the cost of a fully custom calligraphy suite. Words that are often translated into calligraphy would be the names of the couple, the date or the venue to name a few. In the example below, one of our bride’s grandmother wrote out their names and sent it to their stationer for a special personal touch!
Do not get me wrong – I love a fully custom calligraphed suite and quite often we leave room in the budget for those items. However, sometimes the couple would rather the funds be spent elsewhere so we are sure to plan accordingly. Budgeting is a huge part of the process and knowing the best way to spend and stretch those dollars is one of the number one reasons people hire planners!
