Homemade Hot Cocoa

This time of year, with all of the random snow storms, cold days and cloudy skies I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. There you will find me prepping dinners that feel old school and homey then pairing those with warm breads and flavored butter. All of this truly occupies a lot of my time. But my favorite thing about cold days stuck indoors is making my kids homemade hot cocoa and they LOVE to help. Our favorite dairy free recipe is below!

The Venditto Family 0063 - Homemade Hot Cocoa

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup baking cocoa

Dash of kosher salt

1/3 cup hot water

4 cups almond milk

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tsp instant coffee

Dash of chili powder

¼ cup of dairy free chocolate morsels

Mix the sugar, baking cocoa and kosher salt in 1/3 cup water in a medium pot over the stuff on medium heat. Whisk well. Add milk, vanilla extract, instant coffee, chili powder and chocolate morsels. Whisk well and until warm. Pour into cups and top with marshmallows, whipped cream or whatever suits your fancy. Enjoy!
